ABOUT THE JOURNAL
Rocznik Historii Sztuki (Yearbook of Art History) is the most important Polish art historical journal, and one of the oldest. Founded in 1956, it has appeared without interruption ever since. It is the only journal which accepts longer and richly illustrated dissertations.
Rocznik Historii Sztuki is not available as a regular distribution. Copies printed free of charge are received by subscribers – academic institutions, museums, cultural institutions and major libraries.

Professor Ryszard Kasperowicz – Professor of Art History; in the years 1992-2013 he worked at the Institute of Art History of the Catholic University of Lublin; from 2014 he works in the Department of Art Theory at the Institute of Art History UW. His research is focused on the theories of 18th-19th century art, especially in Germany and England, and the historiography of art history and the methodology of research on art. He was awarded the Association of Art Historians Szczęsny Dettloff Prize and Janusz St. Pasierb Award for his book Zweite, ideale Schöpfung. Sztuka w myśleniu historycznym Jacoba Burckhardta (Lublin 2004). He was also nominated for the Jan Długosz Award. Author of the books Berenson i mistrzowie odrodzenia. Przyczynek do postawy estetycznej Bernarda Berensona, Kraków 2001; and Figury zbawienia? Idea “religii sztuki” w wybranych koncepcjach artystycznych XIX stulecia, Lublin 2010. The author of numerous scholarly articles; translated into Polish the writings of Alois Riegel, Aby Warburg and Jacob Burckhardt. A member of The Study of Art Committee at the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) and long-term member of the Association of Art Historians.
Professor Juliusz A. Chrościcki – former student and associate of Profs. M. Walicki and J. Białostocki. Worked at the Institute of Art History (IHS) of the University of Warsaw (UW) from 1964 until his retirement in 2012; Deputy Dean and Dean of the Faculty of History UW; Director of Centre de Civilization Polonaise at the Sorbonne IV in the years 1994-98. Three times candidate for the office of Rector and Vice Rector of the UW. Currently he works as full professor at the Institute of History of Art and Culture (IHSiK) at the Pontifical University of Pope John Paul II in Krakow; Chairman of The Study of Art Committee (KNoS) at the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) for three terms. Scholar of early modern art.
Professor Andrzej Grzybkowski – professor emeritus of the University of Warsaw (UW). Studied at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (UAM): geography – diploma in 1959; art history – diploma in 1967. PhD at the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology (1976); habilitation at the Faculty of History of Art at the University of Warsaw (1989).
Consultant for the Polish Conservation Workshops in Warsaw (1966-1974); Assistant Professor at the Warsaw University of Technology (Faculty of Architecture, 1974-1980); Assistant Professor and Professor at the Institute of Art History and the Institute of Archaeology UW (1980-2010). In the years 1981-1984, Deputy Director of the Institute of Art History UW. Head of the Department of History of Architecture at the Institute of Art History UW (1997-2000). He also lectured at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Toruń (1990-1996), and in the Department of Art History at the University of Gdańsk (1995-2001). A member of The Study of Art Committee at the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN); in the years 2007-2011, Vice President of The Study of Art Committee at the PAN.
Author of dozens of publications including in important European journals such as Arte Medievale, Zeitschrift für Kunstgeschichte, and Zeitschrift für Geschichte der Baukunst. His main book publications are Średniowieczne kaplice zamkowe Piastów Śląskich XII–XIV wieku, Warsaw 1996; Miedzy formą a znaczeniem. Studia z ikonografii architektury i rzeźby gotyckiej, Warsaw 1997; Gotycka architektura murowana w Polsce, Warsaw 2015. In addition to his core interest in medieval architecture, he specialises in iconography of medieval sculpture and its antique tradition and the secular architecture of the 18th – 20th century.
Editor-in-chief of the annual Ikonotheka at the Institute of Art History of the UW (1996-1998). In the years 1998-2016, editor-in-chief of the Rocznik Historii Sztuki. Since 1965, member of the Association of Polish Art Photographers.
Dr. Mateusz Salwa – Assistant Professor in the Department of Aesthetics at the Institute of Philosophy UW; art historian and philosopher by training; he published, among other things, Iluzja w malarstwie. Próba filozoficznej interpretacji (Illusion in Painting. An Attempt at Philosophical Interpretation) (2010), and Estetyka ogrodu. Między sztuką a ekologią (Aesthetics of the Garden. Between Art and Ecology) (2016); also works as a translator, mostly from Italian; his main areas of interest are contemporary aesthetics, early modern and modern art theory and the aesthetics of nature and landscape.
Professor Joanna Sosnowska – specialises in Polish art of the 19th and 20th century, art criticism, and history of art institutions. She graduated in Art History at the University of Warsaw, and works at The Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). She lectured at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University (UKSW) in Warsaw, and the University of Gdańsk; Head of post-graduate studies in the History of Art and Contemporary Visual Culture at the Institute of Art PAN. She published, among other things, Polacy na Biennale Sztuki w Wenecji 1895-1999 (1999); Poza kanonem. Sztuka polskich artystek 1880-1939 (2003); Ukryte w obrazach (2012); Pionierki. Krytyka artystyczna kobiet 1839-1879. Antologia (2016) oraz Emancypantki i modernistki. Tekst kobiet o sztuce 1879-1914. Antologia (with M. Kasa) (2019). She edited the volume of studies devoted to the world exhibitions of 1925 and 1937 in Paris and the 1939 exhibition in New York. She published, among other things, in the Biuletyn Historii Sztuki, Twórczość, Kresy, Konteksty. Sztuka Ludowa, Rocznik Historii Sztuki, and Sztuka i Dokumentacja.
A member of the Museum Council in the National Museum in Krakow, and the Council of the National Program for the Development of Humanities at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education; Chairman of the Program Council of the Kordegarda Gallery in the National Centre of Culture and member of the editorial staff of the Rocznik Historii Sztuki. Scientific editor of the series of doctoral dissertations at the Institute of Art PAN. In 2015, she received the silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis.
Dr. Kamila Dworniczak – Assistant Professor in the Department of Art Theory at the Institute of Art History at the University of Warsaw (UW), specializing in the history of photography and various areas of contemporary art and art criticism. She was awarded the Szczęsny Dettloff Prize (2014) for her doctoral thesis.

THE PEER REVIEW PROCESS
Two independent external reviewers are appointed to assess the manuscript submitted to the Editorial Office. The author of the submitted paper may propose two reviewers. The final choice of reviewers lies with the Editorial Office.
A peer reviewing process is anonymous. It is carried out in accordance with the double-blind review formula, including the principle of absence of conflict of interest between the author and the reviewers, i.e. the reviewer cannot be in relationship of professional subordination or direct personal relationship with the author.
Based on the reviews received, the manuscript may be accepted without changes, accepted conditionally (with the indication of necessary corrections, abbreviations, additions), or rejected. In case of doubt, the decision on publishing the paper is made by the Editorial Office based on both reviews.
